Las Lagunas, behind Fuengirola, is where many of the working families live year-round. If you want beach bars and English spoken at the next table, La Cala suits you; if you want Andalucía with a view, the village does.

Getting around is straightforward by Costa standards: the A-7 and AP-7 run the length of the coast, the Cercanías C-1 train from Fuengirola links you to Málaga city and the airport, and Málaga Airport itself is roughly a 20-to-30 minute drive depending on which part of Mijas you're in. The village is the one place where a car genuinely matters — it sits around 430 metres up the hill, donkey-taxis and all.
